It was a Rock Star studded event at the Ace United Artist Theater this past Sunday, where the film Jaco premiered. The theater was filled with icons such as Dweezil Zappa, Billy Sheehan, Mike Inez of ‘Alice in Chains’, Rudy Sarzo, Duff McKagan and many more!
The film is produced by Robert Trujillo, and depicts the life story of bass guitar legend, Jaco Pastorius. The film covers his time as the bassist in “Weather Report” as well as his award-winning solo career. The film also stars a wide range of artists who were either influenced by his playing or were a part of his musical life, such as Geddy Lee, Flea, Joni Mitchell, Herbie Hancock, Carlos Santana and many more.
After the film, Jaco Pastorius’ son, Felix Pastorius, and his band Hipster Assassins played a set of his father’s music. Following the band was Mass Mental which had Robert Trujillo on bass with special appearances by Flea and Billy Idol. The band covered Black Sabbath’s “Fairies Wear Boots” for Geezer Butler who could not attend the show due to his Sabbath tour in Japan. The band also covered “Cult of Personality” by Living Colour, and they performed Jimi Hendrix’s “Fire” and “Rebel Yell” with Billy Idol on vocals.
The Jaco soundtrack and film will be available in stores on November 27th and on iTunes on the 1st of December.
