One day after M.I.A. teased her fans on Instagram with new artwork including the word “Borders” at the bottom of the picture, she premiered the track on Friday via Spotify.
Sources say, the new single “Borders” is believed to be part of M.I.A.‘s upcoming fifth studio album, Matahdatah.
The song is nothing short of an original M.I.A. song. It contains dance beats, horns, percussions, but most importantly unique sounds from around the globe that come together to make a traditional M.I.A track.
M.I.A.’s music is distinctive often times including a wide range of political, philosophical, and cultural references. Previous albums like Arular, contains songs regarding her experiences of identity politics, poverty, revolution, gender and sexual stereotypes, war, and the conditions of working class in London. The lyrics were categorized as rare and unorthodox, setting her apart from previous artists. Future music from M.I.A. will not fail to educate her fans and create social awareness.
