In the wake of the tragic attacks in Paris, France, on November 13th, bassist and singer-songwriter Thundercat composed an instrumental track simply titled, “Paris.”
“Paris” features Los Angeles producer, and Thundercat’s Brainfeeder label mate, Mono/Poly, according to TheFader.com.
The track, which is available to stream on Soundcloud, features a succinct-yet-touching dedication that reads, “In tribute to those who lost their lives.”

In June 2015, Thundercat – who’s given name is Stephen Bruner – released The Beyond / Where The Giants Roam, which was the highly-anticipated follow up to his 2013 album, Apocalypse. Apart from his solo albums, Bruner is best known for his collaborations with a diverse group of artists, including Flying Lotus, Erykah Badu, Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg.
Thundercat’s label mate Charles Dickerson, known by his stage moniker Mono/Poly, released his full-length album, Golden Skies, in 2014 on Brainfeeder.
The Paris attacks have resonated with people around the world, and tributes have been pouring out on social media. Rapper Yaslin Bey is one musician that is using his art and social media as an outlet. This week, he is releasing a new music video for his song, “No Colonial Fiction.” Additionally, the rapper is calling for social media to be used to spread a positive message, in the face of the attacks in Paris and other atrocities.
In an interview with Ferrari Sheppard for the multimedia project, A Country Called Earth, Bey said, “This is the time to be talking about the dignity and nobility of being a human being, not a machine.”
