Mogwai Announces Guitarist John Cummings Is Leaving The Band

Mogwai have announced the departure of their guitarist John Cummings in the midst of celebrating their 20th anniversary. The news was revealed via a post on their website saying Cummings “has decided to focus on personal projects for the foreseeable future.”

The complete statement reads:

We are sad to announce that John Cummings has decided to leave Mogwai to pursue his own musical projects.

We will continue as a four piece of Dominic Aitchison, Stuart Braithwaite, Martin Bulloch and Barry Burns and shall be joined on our upcoming live shows by Scott Paterson and Luke Sutherland.

We wish John all the best with the future.

Cummings joined the band in 1995 shortly after they formed, becoming the fourth member of the group. According to Consequence of Sound, the band celebrated their 20th year together over the summer by compiling set of hits and rarities entitled, Central Belters. Although the band is currently working on their new album, they will continue to play as a quartet, guitarist/vocalist Braithwaite recently launched a side project with members of Slowdive and Editors called Minor Victories.
