Wreckmeister Harmonies recently released a video for their song “Night Of Your Ascension.” David Yow from Jesus Lizard and Scratch Acid is also seen in the video. David Yow is a known Wreckmeister collaborator and has done other Wreckmeister works along side front man J.R. Robinson. The album, Night Of Your Ascension, took thirty musicians and nearly a year in the making. The album is a repose of questions about the human impulse and human nature’s desire for such dark impulses and how society calls on us to act and still calls on us to do so even today. The inspirations for Robinson’s third album were the death of Father John Goeghan and the life of Don Carlo Gesualdo.
“Night Of Your Ascension” is also the self-titled track of the third album, Night Of Your Ascension. The video starts off with a dinner party and then that is when things get turned into a H.P. Lovecraft and Edgar Allen Poe story. An dead guy shows up and then everything gets bloody, like the end of the French royal family: violent, bloody, and even gored with food. The dead guy happens to be Yow himself in the clip, which was also directed by Robinson himself. Even though there is food and people are dining like well-mannered pigs, the bloody aftermath is all about the reigning rule becoming a submissive little git. If you don’t think that is a perfect analysis, then check out the clip below for yourself.
Wreckmeister has announced tour dates for the third album, which is available for order on Thrill Jockey’s website.
