Pusha T Named President of Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music Inc.

Pusha T has just been named president of G.O.O.D. Music Inc by the label founder, Kanye West.

The call came during a trip home, while in the car at the airport, states Pusha T in an interview with Billboard. Kanye asked simple question, “What do you think about being the president of G.O.O.D. music?” Pusha T would take the position that was offered to his with very little hesitation. With mutual respect for each other’s work and creative prowess as artists Pusha T could understand where the offer came from. Stating this in the same interview with Billboard:

“He looks at me and my other businesses and understands that’s why I have this luxury of time in whether it be my clothing stores, my clothing line, just things like that. He just notices me and him don’t ever have that type of pressure, tension, producer-artist relationship. I think he respects that a lot and not to mention, ever since I’ve been on G.O.O.D. Music, there’s been a host of artists that I’ve brought to the table, tried to sign, brought to his attention in trying to sign, whether something was super hot or I called it it’s not going to stand the test of time, it’s wack. I been pretty right in a few regards. Those are the things he keys on as far as I go and just as far as being a part of the culture.”

G.O.O.D. music stands for Getting Out Our Dreams and was founded by Kanye West back in 2004. Artists such as Big Sean, Teyana Taylor, Mos Def, Dban’j and John Legend are all part of the label, as well as West and Pusha T. The label has released ten certified gold or higher albums by the Recording Industry Association of America. When Pusha asked Kanye what he was looking for in him as the President for his label he said, “To manicure the label, make it profitable and very business-oriented about it going forward in manicured type of way.” Pusha T’s long time manager, Steven Victor will also be joining him as A&R.

The new responsibilities of being President will not affect Pusha’s own work and will not affect any planned releases. Stating that he is ahead of the game on his own material saying specifically that he has been “working on the album for a minute in between touring and everything else.”

Ryan Fricke: Music is my therapy, which I could not function without. I am currently finishing my senior year a Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Florida with a Journalism major and a Creative Writing Minor. I first realized I wanted to become a Music Journalist the minute I learned that I could get paid to do the two things I love most, writing and listening to music. I have yet to decide which I am more infatuated with but for the time being I will happily house them to their stalemate. My plans after graduation are unclear but I hope to further gain experience in this profession.
