“2006-2015: (Almost) A Decade of Awesome” headlines the latest press release from Cobra Starship, who announced their split today.
The dance-pop group from NYC was behind leading singles like “You Make Me Feel,” “Good Girls Go Bad” and “Never Been In Love” with Icona Pop. Sadly, the “Cobras” will have no more radio hits to dance to.
In a heartfelt letter via press release and on the band’s website, Cobra Starship’s founder, Gabe Saporta, said part of the reasoning behind the breakup is because he and the band would “rather close this chapter of our lives and be able to look back on it fondly than allow something that means so much to us stagnate.” He profusely thanks the fans and everyone who helped the band throughout their careers.
He takes time to reflect on the group’s accomplishments, including platinum records, VMA nominations and the previously-named, hugely popular hits. He also talked about how much he enjoyed being a part of the unique group that Cobra Starship is (was):
To me, the most rewarding thing about Cobra Starship is that we were successful not because we played the game, but because we broke the rules and paved our own way. There was something magical about how everything came together, and we were blessed to have your support and to see our dreams materialize.
Saporta finishes the letter by stating that though Cobra Starship has come to an end, his passion for music and drive for creativity has not. He left fans with this:
The truth is that there is nothing that I am more passionate about than music. And although the time has come for me to pass the baton, nothing would be as rewarding for me as the opportunity to share my wisdom and experiences with the next generation of artists.
