LISTEN: JJ Releases New Song “I Wish”

Swedish duo JJ, often written as jj, have released a new track called “I Wish.” It hasn’t been announced whether the song is a standalone single or part of an upcoming album by the band.

JJ is made up of Joakim Benon and Elin Kastlander and belongs to the independent record label Sincerely Yours, which was founded by fellow Swedish musicians in the group The Tough Alliance. The duo have only been around since 2009, but have released three full-length studio albums in that time, as well as a mixtape and five singles/EPs.

“I Wish” was tagged with “#breakup” on Soundcloud, according to Stereogum. That hashtag is representative of the lyrics of the new track, which begins with the telling line “I wish I could hate you.” The vocal effects on the song make it stand out among the myriad other heartbreak-laden tracks out there. The mix of strings instrumentals, percussion beats and electronic experimentation give the song a unique sound too. Listen to “I Wish” below via Soundcloud.

This is JJ’s first release of new material in 2015. Their latest album, V, dropped in August 2014 and was generally well-received, if not perfect album. In 2014 they also released two new tracks: “All White Everything” was the first single from V and “Dean & Me” was the follow-up track from the album. They also released music video for “Dynasti,” the third single from last year’s LP.
