With the release of his eighth studio album, Garden of Delete, right around the corner, Oneohtrix Point Never (OPN) has just put out a two-part music video for his latest single, “Sticky Drama.”
The spooky, technicolor prologue and music video appear in part as a video game, much of which is centered around a mysterious goo (hence, “Sticky Drama”). Watch both videos below:
The press release for the video explains:
With a cast of over 35 children, the film tunes into this musical ambition, bringing to life a fantastical world in which characters are on a quest, battling for dominance and in a race against time to archive past histories. Inspired by the costumes, staging and extended improvised narratives of Live Action Role Play (LARP), the video reflects the vivid, often violent world of children’s imaginations and games, as well as extending both artists’ ongoing investigation into appropriation, the nature of memory and the horror of data loss…The piece was originally commissioned by the Zabludowicz Collection in conjunction with Warp Records. An alternative edit of it has been showing as part of Rafman’s multi-format exhibition currently showing in London.
OPN released the lead single from Garden of Delete, titled “I Bite Through It,” at the beginning of September; he also released melodies from the upcoming album via MIDI files later that month. His winter tour begins this weekend in Italy and currently lists dates through February – Locations and tickets can be found on his website.
