Sleigh Bells Accuse Demi Lovato Of Sampling Without Permission

Brooklyn-based noise-pop outfit, Sleigh Bells have bone-to-pick with Demi Lovato over the striking similarities between the cuts from their 2010 debut record, Treats: “Infinity Guitars” and “Riot Rhythm” and Demi’s track: “Stars.” The band attests that Demi’s song allegedly sampled sonic-aspects from their two hits without first asking permission to do so.

Lovato’s “Stars” is featured on the deluxe edition set from her recently released effort, Confident.  While Sleigh Bells haven’t clearly pointed out which elements were sampled for use, Lovato’s particular display of “hand-clap” rhythms and fuzzy synth textures do place a rather fitting-resemblance to the duo’s distinct sensibilities.

The accusations began when Sleigh Bells tweeted their thoughts about the “Cool for the Summer” star’s single:

Declining to comment on her own, Lovato’s producers: Rami Yacoub and Carl Falk shot back with a sincere rebuttal for the artist’s case:

“We did not use any samples in Demi Lovato’s song ‘Stars’.  Demi was also not involved with the production.  She only wrote top line.”

In response to Carl and Rami’s claims, Sleigh Bells are apparently sticking to their guns with the release of their following statement to Rolling Stone magazine:

“A band representative confirms that the band feels their music has been sampled without proper clearance and are seeking all available remedies with (Lovato’s record label) Island Records.”
