Something big is happening for the Foo Fighters at midnight on Nov. 23. The band has posted a countdown clock on their website, indicating an announcement.
The impending news is anyone’s guess, but there are several theories revolving currently.
Stereogum believes that it may involve a second season of their HBO show, Sonic Highways, also the name of their conceptual 2014 LP. The show, through interviews conducted by Grohl, draws parallels between various American cities and their music. The band then wrote and recorded a song in each city, taking what they learned from the interviews, which were all compiled to construct the studio album.
Another sentiment comes from Alternative Nation, predicting that the similarity between the logo on the Foo’s website and the sign for the legendary Route 66 will intertwine somehow. The famous highway has been the subject of various pieces of pop-culture, perhaps most notably the Bobby Troup penned song, “Get Your Kicks (On Route 66)”.
Given Grohl’s documented fascination with music history, as well as thinking outside the box, either one of these scenarios sounds possible.
As per usual, the band has been in the news a lot recently. From on-stage injuries to cover songs with John Paul Jones and Stevie Nicks, Dave Grohl and company always seem to have a penchant for grasping the headlines. More predictions will be sure to circulate before the reveal, so fans of the band should keep their eyes peeled for any clues as to what it might be.
