Dan Auerbach Announces The Arcs Black Friday Inventor Series Featuring Collaboration With Dr. John

Black Keys guitarist and vocalist Dan Auerbach, and his side project band The Arcs, will release new record for Record Store Day’s Black Friday on Nov. 27. The new 10″, The Arcs Vs. The Inventors Vol. 1, will feature legendary R&B keyboardist Dr. John, and David Hidalgo of Los Lobos.

The album is slated to be the first in a series of a collaborative released from the band. Given Auerbach’s influences, and the music of The Black Keys, it is not surprising to see him pay homage and work with past innovators in blues and R&B circles. He also produced Dr. John’s 2012 LP, Locked Down.

Auerbach released a statement regarding the release, and his motives for the collaborative effort.

Sometimes the best way to see into the future is to study the past. In this series we do both, collaborating with folks who have been in the game a long time but instead of rehashing old material, we collaborate on new works, explore new ideas and introduce each other to a different generational perspective. We’ll continue in this series to track down our heroes and bug them until they agree to make some noise with us. Hopefully we learn a thing or two. Yours, Dreamily.

The band is set to begin a fall tour in November in support of their debut album Yours, Dreamily.
