Riding ever-so-assuredly on the majestic waves of her latest effort, Divers, released just last week via Drag City, California-songstress Joanna Newsom has a new trick to sell with her lushly-expressionistic video of the same name.
Scaling the trend as Paul Thomas Anderson‘s most current creative muse, the video, “Divers” first made its screening-debut last week courtesy of select-theaters across the U.S.. Now in its widespread dominion, brought to you by YouTube, the video casts Newsom amidst a poignant composition reminiscent to a biblical oil-painting. Locking profound-looks with the camera on a timely-basis, the superimposed-persona of Newsom herself floats amongst clouds manifested by renowned design-artist Kim Keever, unleashing a journey ethereal.
Celebrated for his critically-acclaimed films: There Will Be Blood, The Master, and Boogie Nights, legendary-autuer, Paul Thomas Anderson first issued the psych-folk ingenue in his most-recent theatrical release, Inherent Vice, opposite Jaoquin Phoenix as an omniscient narrator, soothsayer. The two also collaborated to produce the lilting video-interpretation for Newsom’s, “Sapokanikan,” trailing the footsteps of her new-cut, “Leaving The City.”
Newsom will trek a quaint tour through Europe this fall in light of her fresh-LP. The tour bursts on the scene in ghoulish-fashion, baring her musical-gifts aboard Manchester’s Albert Hall this coming Halloween night.
