Jenny Lee Lindberg, bassist for indie rock band Warpaint, has premiered a music video for “Never,” a track from her upcoming solo debut, right on! The album is under her recently assumed identity, jennylee. The album will become available on December 10 via Rough Trade Records.
Lindberg began playing bass and doing vocals for Warpaint in 2004. She has been performing with them and featured on all of the albums for the past 11 years, with notable vocal performances on their “Disco//very” and “CC” tracks. She announced the name change and solo debut in September 2015. The album is available for pre-order, which will include a Polaroid of her autograph and a patch.
“Never” is the lead single from jennylee, according to Consequence of Sound. The song has the same retro feel as a lot of Warpaint tracks, perhaps influenced by the involvement of fellow Warpaint member Stella Mogzawa. It differs in that jennylee’s vocals and strumming are central to the sound of her music. It’s a haunting track, with Lindberg repeating the title word desperately in the chorus, and groaning at other point in the song. “Never” definitely has a grunge feel to it.
As for the visuals, this clip mostly features jennylee recording in the studio cut with scenes of her dancing. The look of the video matches the retro feel of the song, with grainy images and washed-out color. Watch the “Never” video below.
