Philip Anselmo Announces Superjoint Is Working On A New Album

Heavy metal musician Phil Anselmo has announced that one of his projects, Superjoint, is currently working on a new album. In an interview with Loudwire, Anselmo said that Superjoint is his number one musical priority right now, even though he belongs to a handful of other bands.

Superjoint, who released their previous two albums under the name Superjoint Ritual, was formed in the early 1990s. Original members of the group included Anselmo, Joe Fazzio and Jimmy Bower, but they later added Kevin Bond and Hank Williams III to the lineup. The band released their debut studio album, Use Once And Destroy, in 2002 and their follow-up, A Lethal Dose Of American Hatred, the next year. They became active again in 2014 at the Housecore Horror Film Festival, where they performed full set together. They released a live music video for their track “Ozena” from the performance as well.

In July 2015, the band toured for the first time in more than decade, hitting a number of cities across the United States. Superjoint is currently on tour with Danzig on the Blackest Of The Black Tour. The tour’s last stop is in Los Angeles on Halloween, but Superjoint will then be performing at the Housecore Horror Film Festival again in mid-November in San Antonio, Texas. The following is what Anselmo has disclosed of the new music:

The best thing is we’re working on new stuff and hopefully get it out next year sometime. There is a groove element to it, but I don’t want to toss that word around too liberally, because it’ll give people the wrong idea … It’s short, straight to the point, no bulls–t and we’re close, we’re really close. We’re close to about 30-45 minutes of music … but we’ve got more writing to do.

Anselmo is arguably most well-known for his work in Pantera, but he is now working with several projects aside from Superjoint, including Down, Philip H. Anselmo & the Illegals and his newest group, Scour. He says, “Superjoint is a priority because, obviously, we’re out now. People are seeing us right now and I think that’s what they need.”
