Battles released a music video for their song, “Dot Net,” which is taken from their most recent album, La Di Da Di.

The band had previously shared a new song, “FF Bada,” and released video for “The Yabba.” But, their latest music video is the first part of a new Warp Arts film series for the short form strand Random Acts, which airs on Channel 4 in the UK.

The premise behind the Channel 4 video series is to create collaborations between Warp Recording artists and filmmakers, where the creators “are encouraged to provoke thought and debate,” according to a press release.

The Warp Arts films for Random Acts will be curated into a special 30-minute program, which will be broadcast in 2016.

As a part of the Channel 4 series, Battles collaborated with visual artist Ben Jones, who is based in Los Angeles, California. In a press release, Battles’ Dave Konopka elaborated on how the collaboration came to fruition.

He said:

“Ben Jones and I went Massachusetts College of Art together in the 90s and I’ve been a huge fan of his work as both a solo artist and a member of Paper Rad ever since.

When Channel Four approached us about a collaboration with a visual artist, Ben Jones immediately came to mind because I have always thought that there would be a great synthesis of Ben’s experimental animation and Battles’ technicolor sounds–a joining of two forms that I have been wanting to make happen for years.

As luck would have it, when I reached out to Ben to see if he would be interested in collaborating, he had just finished installing a new solo show of some outstanding new work, which is featured throughout the Dot Net video. Through his incorporation of a live-action gallery scene intercut with his authentically one-of-a-kind animation, Ben made a video for Dot Net that is one of my favorite Battles video collaborations and absolute joy to watch over and over again.”

In addition to supplying art work for “Dot Net,” Ben Jones directed the video, as well. In a press release, Jones discussed the vision for the video, which was an idealized vision of the interaction between man and technology.

He said:

“The exploration of the digital territory between abstract graphic user interfaces, polyrhythms and human interaction was a paramount inspiration of this video. Prodding and proving the causality of passive engagement vs hyper-addiction concerning the influence of “screen time” (using the video and audio of an iPad or iPhone or etc….). In the end we kept returning to this jump off: “is this a dope music vid to have on your apple watch? Yes or No?.”

And, on a related note, Battles are on a world tour that will take them across the United States, the UK, and Europe, through Asia, around cities in Australia and New Zealand with the Laneway Festival, amongst other locations, before wrapping up in London, England, on the 24th of March 2016.
