LISTEN: Ten Commandos, Featuring Members Of Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Queens Of The Stone Age And Mark Lanegan, Release New Song “Staring Down The Dust”

New supergroup Ten Commandos has released a new track entitled “Staring Down The Dust,” which will appear on their currently untitled debut album.

The supergroup just formed recently and includes drummer Matt Cameron of Pearl Jam, guitarist Alain Johannes of Queens of the Stone Age, bassist Ben Shepherd of Soundgarden, Dimitri Coats of OFF! and vocalist Mark Lanegan of Screaming Trees. The quartet has been writing music together since 2014 but only recently announced the project and its upcoming album, which is expected to be released in November. The band has released artwork for the single, below, but not yet for the album.

“Staring Down The Dust” is the first single from Ten Commandos, and it will pique listeners’ interest. With so many veterans of grunge and alternative rock involved, it’s no wonder that this song is heavy on guitar and contains gruff vocals. It’s a great first taste of what the supergroup is capable of and the kind of material that will be appearing on their debut LP. The lyrics are dark but not overbearingly so, partially due to the instrumentals: “Staring down the dust/Kissing the Angel of Death/Praying your will isn’t crushed.” SPIN reports that Coats referred to their sound as a “little bit like Superunknown…with Alain’s kind of Stevie Wonder vibe.” Check out “Staring Down The Dust” below.
