Dream pop group Beach House announced that they will be releasing a new album, Thank Your Lucky Stars, in vinyl and digital formats on October 16th, 2015.
Despite having just released Depression Cherry, a few weeks ago, the group announced Thank Your Lucky Stars via Instagram and Twitter. And, this is an album that is actually happening, unlike a prank that occurred during a new podcast by the Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne that left Beach House fans wanting more.
The aforementioned podcast allegedly contained an interview and preview of a new song, but some of the fans took a closer listen to the new song, and raised suspicions about the track, Consequence of Sound reports. Later on, representative for the Baltimore musical duo emailed SPIN to say that, “It is not a new song. Not even their voices on that podcast. Sorry!”
Beach House took to Twitter to dispel rumours of the new album being a surprise, according to Stereogum, which cites one of the duo’s tweets that now appears to be deleted. It read: “Just becuz we didn’t send the record to press 6 months before its release does not make it a surprise, fans/press hear it at the same time.”
And, here’s a little more information about Thank Your Lucky Stars from the duo’s Facebook page. They posted the following message on October 7th, 2015, and it read: “[Thank Your Lucky Stars] was recorded at the same time as Depression Cherry, but for us, it’s very much a different record. All of its songs were written after the DC songs. Along the way we realized that we didn’t want it to be released in the traditional manner. Mainly, we just wanted our listeners to hear it first. We will have more info later……”
Initial rumours began to swirl about a new album from Beach House, as users of the social sites Reddit and 4chan unearthed a number of “Easter egg” clues on the duo’s official website. However, contrary to internet users’ speculations that this new release will be a collection of B-sides, or a companion to Depression Cherry, the band tweeted that, “We are very excited, it’s an album being released the way we want. It’s not a companion to depression cherry or a surprise or b-sides.”
After their last studio album was leaked ahead of the release date, Beach House is taking control of the roll out on October 16th, in conjunction with their label, SubPop, and keeping things under wraps until now should allow all listeners to get the album at the same time.
