WATCH: Rhiannon Giddens Releases New Video For “Black Is The Color”

Rhiannon Giddens releases her new video for “Black Is The Color” while on her Fall 2015 Tour.

Rhiannon Giddens has just released her new video for “Black Is the Color” off of her solo debut album Tomorrow Is My Turn. The album is very successful one, to no one’s surprise. Keeping her beat-box fusion alive from her original “Hit ‘Em Up Style” cover on the Carolina Chocolate Drops’ album Genuine Negro Jig, she sparks the same originality and interest with this track. Giddens is best known as the lead singer, violinist, banjo player and founding member of Carolina Chocolate Drops. The video can be seen below.

According to NPR, the songs off of Giddens’ solo debut are strongly linked to iconic female performers. These performers include Elizabeth Cotton, Sister Roesetta Tharpe and Patsy Cline. This is also true of her video released track mentioned before. The song was originally Nina Simone’s, who ended up slowing it down in order to fully express the songs emotion. This is where Giddens was able to excel and show her true talent with the track.

Giddens is still finishing up her Fall 2015 tour that she announced back in September. The tour is set to finish in late November in Wilminton, DE. All tour information can be found here.

Ryan Fricke: Music is my therapy, which I could not function without. I am currently finishing my senior year a Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Florida with a Journalism major and a Creative Writing Minor. I first realized I wanted to become a Music Journalist the minute I learned that I could get paid to do the two things I love most, writing and listening to music. I have yet to decide which I am more infatuated with but for the time being I will happily house them to their stalemate. My plans after graduation are unclear but I hope to further gain experience in this profession.
