So, what’s next for runway shows in the fashion industry? How about being able to watch the show from the comfort of your laptop, accompanied by a cover of Chic’s “I Want Your Love” performed by Lady Gaga and Nile Rodgers? Does it sound strange? Yes. Does it work? Absolutely.
Oddly enough, one of the largest trends in music today is nostalgia and working with a track from the past. Modernizing this track into a pop anthem was done incredibly both by Lady Gaga and Nile Rodgers.
Nile Rodgers is likely recognized from the 1970s band Chic, and has worked with bands such as Daft Punk on more recent material. In fact, Daft Punk recently created tribute video to Nile Rodgers in order to return the favor of his collaboration with their material, featuring the journey “from disco to daft punk”.
According to Consequence of Sound, the video itself previews many of Tom Ford’s fashions, allowing the audience to explore the combination of the music and the fashion industry for not the first time. It feels trendy and like you belong in a club, with all the flashing lights and constant movement of the models. It works very well alongside the rhythm of the “I Want Your Love” cover, making your eyes go towards the fashion and your ears embrace the audio.
After Lady Gaga released last year her story of being sexually assaulted by her producer, she’s seemed to lay low in the media. However, this cover really shows that she’s not going anywhere and her stellar voice and artistic talent will stay for plenty of time.
