Danish band Choir of Young Believers have announced the release date of their upcoming album, Grasque, which will become available on February 19, 2016. It is already available for pre-order.
The album will be released via Ghostly International in several different formats: CD, digital and double LP. The last of those formats will be available in limited color vinyl or black vinyl. Choir of Young Believers have already released two tracks from the forthcoming album, entitled “Jeg Ser Dig” and “Face Melting,” respectively. Grasque will be the band’s third full-length studio album, as well as their third album release with Ghostly International.
Choir of Young Believers began in 2006 with Jannis Noya Makrigiannis, who is the stable base of the group, while other members filter in and out. The band won “Best New Act” at the Danish Music Awards in 2009 and has gained many fans internationally over the years. This latest album is a result of Makrigiannis’ exhaustion after touring for the group’s 2012 album Rhine Gold. He didn’t feel like playing or writing music, but began to experiment with a pocket sampler to make beats and soundscapes.
Grasque contains a variety of auditory effects, such as choral vocals, and a variety of genres, such as jazz and techno. As Makrigiannis continued to work with others, he began to realize that his normal instrumental work could be meshed with his experimentation to make a new sound – the sound that is featured on the upcoming album. The leader of Choir of Young Believers spoke about his initial thoughts of this new sound:
I must admit, one of the things I worried about was ‘What will people think?’ With almost all of these songs, I had been in doubt. Some, I felt, were too poppy, others too experimental — some didn’t even feel like songs, but more like trips, or feelings. Some even had Danish and Greek lyrics. But now, it’s all Choir of Young Believers to me, and it feels great to have pushed the walls around the band, giving it a bit more space.
