!!! (Chk Chk Chk) has yet to release their new album, As If, but their video for their single “Bam City” is already on the internet. Their other single “Ooo” is already making smash hit alongside their video for single “Freedom 15.”
Dancing Capuchin moneys have yet to offer the singing in the laundry room. Even though the animated monkeys peeling their bananas is some of the light tidbits in the video, the eventual success is tied to the fact that the band is trying to make their video around their ambitions of being awkward but still lovable. “I don’t think it’s [unusual] to expect much out of a band that has been together for 18 years. My hope is that we are an unusual case,” said frontman Nic Offer. The change of pace in the video and the visual keys that make it weird and quirky were all based on the new location of the recording studio in Nic’s apartment in New York City. Both Nic and Rafael Cohen started working on forty different tracks for the new album and then whittled the compositions down to a sixth studio album with twenty tracks, and then down to eleven tracks based on band member’s vote, ranging in creativity from dance music to raw and edgy. “It’s a result of us, like, finally figuring out how the drum machines work. It’s definitely a record where we learned more than we have in years,” said Nic Offer.
As If hits stores this October and will be here before you know it. The eleven track album will be available on 2LP, CD, and Digital platforms. Fans can pre-order the album from the Warp website.
