SUN O))) has been working on collaborations for fat since their Monoliths & Dimensions album since it came out in 2009, but now the band is working on a new album Kannon for a release in December. The new album will be created in three pieces and will include guests Attila Csihar, Oren Ambarchi, Rex Ritter, and Steve Moore. Kannon will be their first album in a long time and will also sound more like the band, than the band sounding like their collaborative co-stars. Sun O))) will release the new album on vinyl and CD and offer it for download in December.
Inside the Kannon album there are notes written by critical theorist Aliza Shvarts who analyzes the band’s namesake with their upcoming album. The goddess of mercy is from the Mahayana Buddhism branch. Kannon is her name in Japanese and in East Asia she is known as Guanyin. The goddess percieves the cries the world, the mercy and suffering of those who are in need of enlightenment for their well being. The album and the new perspective of the band will be those who will become enlightened for anyone who listens. They may not be followers of Mahayana Buddhism, but they are trying their best to enlighten those around them and of course, those who are fans of their music.
