LISTEN: Woke Release New Song “The Lavishments Of Light Looking” Featuring George Clinton And Flying Lotus

A new collaboration between Flying Lotus, Shabazz Palaces and Thundercat has been released as part of the 2015 Adult Swim Singles program.

Woke is the collaborative effort of Flying Lotus, Shabazz and Thundercat and they have just released their new single on Adult Swims Singles program. The single is called “The Lavishments of Light Looking” and was released on September 28th in place of sole release by Flying Lotus that was originally planned. The track also features vocals from George Clinton. The single can be sampled below on Adult Swim’s soundcloud.

The funk effect is pouring out of this track with a mix of a spacy trip through the cosmos. With a noticeable jazz influence the single is a perfect installment into the Adult Swim series. It isn’t until the second part of the song that we hear Clinton’s contribution but he brings it with a delivery of his mantra, “Free your mind.” According to Rollingstone, Flying Lotus and Clinton have had experience working together before on Kendrick Lamar’s “Wesley’s Theory,” where Clinton commented on Lamar as being “a clever kid.”

Through the Adult Swim series we have seen such collaborative artists as Doomstarks and Danny Brown/Clams Casino. We have also seen a release by Run the Jewels, Slayer, Skrillex and Shabazz Palaces. On October 5th the 19 week 2015 program is set to come to an end with a second release from Run the Jewels.

Ryan Fricke: Music is my therapy, which I could not function without. I am currently finishing my senior year a Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Florida with a Journalism major and a Creative Writing Minor. I first realized I wanted to become a Music Journalist the minute I learned that I could get paid to do the two things I love most, writing and listening to music. I have yet to decide which I am more infatuated with but for the time being I will happily house them to their stalemate. My plans after graduation are unclear but I hope to further gain experience in this profession.
