Classixx wants you to dance. They’re begging you to. And they mean really dance- not jump up and down, not to put your F%&^KING HANDS UP, not to twirl your hands around and rave. They want you to bump booties, get down, throw a jump split in there for all they care- but they wanna see you move. They might not verbalize it, but the way the duo that makes up Classixx structure their songs and where they derive inspiration, it’s clear that’s what they are hoping for.
Daft Punk and 70’s disco are hiding everywhere throughout Classixx tracks. Signed to great label Kitsune (seriously, listen to their samplers. Your new favorites are hiding there as we speak), Classixx avoids trends and sticks to the sounds that are wallflower-resistant. The disco slaps are plentiful, the synths are funky and intentionally retro. Nancy Whang, formerly of LCD Soundsystem, offers an assist on of their most recent tracks, “All You’re Waiting For”. With a Le Tigre-like delivery, Whang is a perfect addition to the production team’s appreciation for all things fresh.
Held at 1015 Folsom (a venue that stays open very late post last call), this event will be all about getting sweaty and showing off your moves. While the team has plenty of their own tracks to fill their set, they also have a huge body of work in remixes. The two producers have a special knack for sussing out the sonically interesting and bringing it to the forefront of a remix while adding their own spin. They manage to never fully betray the tone or feeling that a song can produce but offer a fresh perspective on the proceedings- look to there “Is This How You Feel” or “Pleasure Principle” remixes for two classic examples of their skilled approach to already-great material.
