Mike Oldfield Announces Release Of His Soundtrack For The Space Movie For The First Time

The Space Movie Soundtrack written by Mike Oldfield is available for listening. The movie is a documentary about expeditions to space and the infamous space race. The soundtrack from the movie will include an introduction voiced by famous astronaut, Buzz Aldrin, from the crew of Apollo 13 and features all of the orchestrated songs and talk-back between the astronauts and ground control.

The film was commissioned by the London Weekend Television and Virgin Films back in 1979 to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the moon landing that took place on July 21 in 1969. The soundtrack will be released on CD and will includes the unreleased versions of Oldfield’s “Tubular Bells” and “Hergest Ridge.”

Tony Palmer, the co-producer of the film was invited to Washington to overlook the film from NASA that includes clips from 1962 to the Apollo 17 mission that took place in 1972. NASA allowed full creativity of the film, and the soundtrack was something special that captured every bit of the film. Even though most of the songs were not included in the movie, the soundtrack provides all parts of the music and voice overs that can be found within the entire film. The soundtrack will also come with a complete Director’s Cut BONUS DVD of the movie.

The Space Movie soundtrack can be bought on Gonzo Media’s website and screening of the 1978 film will be shown November 15 at the The Barbican in London in Cinema number two. The Soundtrack will be released this October.
