Dark indie-rocker’s: Editors just dropped a new tune for the kids. In lieu of their fifth studio album, In Dream, conveniently slated for release October 2nd via Play It Again Sam, their latest cut: “The Law” features Slowdive‘s Rachel Goswell to grace us with her airy charm.
Gilded by the shadowy inclinations of frontman, Tom Smith, “The Law” unveils the juxtaposition of brooding-chemistry between the melancholy-chant of his own approach with the chilling-essence of Goswell’s candor. Such are the inner-workings heralding the British-rocker’s first-ever duet.
Spin magazine says it best with their perspective of the track: “The harsh, almost no-wave synth lines and percussion transition easily into a deep, but scratchy bass line. That throatiness is matched by Smith’s deep brooding questions: ‘What are you drinking/Can I get some?’ Smith’s miserable character is then saved by Goswell’s signature dream-pop hush which him not to ‘let it get heavy.'”
Painstakingly recorded in Crear in the Western Highlands by the band themselves and masterfully-helmed through the seasoned-talent of Alan Moulder’s mixing abilities, the sweltering cut highlight’s the “brand-new” line-up of Editors. Featuring new-additions: Elliot Williams and Justin Lockey, the founding-fathers: Tom Smith, Ed Lay, and Russell Leetch now have a well-rounded roster to expand the experimental-depths of Editors’ profound sound.
