Made of Oak has just released a new song and video entitled “Pinebender”. Made of Oak is Nick Sanborn of Sylvan Esso’s electronic project, and is working on a debut EP Penumbra. Penumbra is set for release on November 6th via Partisan.
“Pinebender” is Nick Sanborn’s venture into an individual electronic project, and this track emphasizes the stellar debut he’s taking. Taking bits and pieces from the strongest elements of electronic music, it’s clear he has an ear for what really works within this genre.
When asked about Penumbra and his track “Pinebender”, Nick Sanborn said the following:
“Pinebender was the first song I wrote for Penumbra, so it seemed fitting that it be the first thing we shared. The visual, created by Endless Endless, features my favorite piece by sculptor Kristof Wickman which doubles as the cover art and felt tailor-made for the themes of the record.”
The video accompanying “Pinebender” was created by Endless Endless, and highlights artist Kristof Wickman’s unique work. Wickman’s piece “From a mathematics ability perspective we were never meant for each other,” focuses on two arms made out of a metalic material, continuously clasping hands. It’s a unique piece and different to be the focus of a visual for an electronic track, but flows incredibly well. Kristof Wickman’s work has been featured at the Brooklyn Museum and Novella Gallery in NYC.
Whether you’ll get hooked on the deep resonating rhythm or the more melodic highlights, “Pinebender” is definitely worth a listen to check out Nick Sanborn’s journey into the electronic scene.
