Limb – Terminal

Energy abounds!

From London, England, comes the second full length release from rock band Limb. Their first album, which was released not long ago in 2014, received generally mixed reviews; some critics called it an excellent sludge album, while some others were no so enthusiastic. In spite of these criticisms Limb carried on, welcoming a new drummer to the fold and hooked up with metal producer Russ Russell to bring their listeners Terminal. Will the new album blow away what the listeners thought they knew of Limb or leave them feeling dejected?

All in all, Terminal is a good album. While nothing terribly crazy occurs, the album’s stability and consistency are welcome. There are moments where the band’s sludgy origins are heard in full swing, but they are completely overshadowed by the heavy frontal assault of groovy guitars and sick drum beats. The band seems to have had a blast making the music; every track is vibrant and full of energy. “Down By the Banks” is a sure fire favorite, complete with a crowd inciting chorus and a playful but hardcore guitar riff. There is only one particularly oddball track on the record, “Mortuary Teeth,” which sounds more like a demo than anything else, and at a total of two minutes and six seconds would be a completely expendable track  if it were not for the song’s particularly cool bass-line.

With clear lyrics and a good flow, Terminal is a solid piece of rock work. Each band member brought their A-game, taking the album exactly where it needed to go to renew listener faith and prove naysayers wrong. It is a clear improvement over their debut album, touching on some new styling while still bringing a sludge feel from their beginnings. A perfect next step for LIMB and their music, Terminal gets the thumbs up.
