Silversun Pickups have released a brand new song entitled, “Circadian Rhythm (Last Dance)”. It is the second single from their upcoming and highly anticipated new LP, Better Nature. The album is slated to be released on September 25 under the band’s new record label, New Machine Recordings.
The new song has a different vibe because bassist Nikki Monninger takes a shot at sharing lead vocals on this one. Lead vocalist Brian Aubert explains, “I wrote the music for this song but Nikki wrote the lyrics to it. It’s really an homage to a friend of hers that passed away recently. I think it’s the first time Nikki wrote most of the lyrics. We knew we were gonna do this duet together and I really knew she had something going on that needed to come out and I’m happy this was the vessel for it.”

It’s been three years since the band’s last album, Neck of the Woods and the Silverlake, CA-based band has joined forces once again with producer Jacknife Lee who has worked with U2, Two Door Cinema Club and Crystal Castles. Songs like “Friendly Fires” and “Cradle (Better Nature)” were created and molded in Lee’s Topanga studio in the San Fernando Valley with the band building from Aubert’s past unused songwriting demos.
Punchy drum sounds open the track and it’s three ominous chords introduce Aubert’s vocals. Monninger handles the second verse as the song segues into the chorus where both vocalists trade off the song’s lyrics. The tone of their voices are very similar yet when combined give off a stereophonic effect that is quite memorable. The song’s production is clear and precise, with layers of guitar work and keyboards that propel the atmospheric music in a steady and forceful manner.
Better Nature is now available for pre-order in a variety of formats, including a limited edition signed 2 disc 180g vinyl (black) bundle. The package includes a lot of goodies such as signed handwritten lyric sheets, art proofs, a limited edition T-shirt, and customized SSPU nightlight. The band will also celebrate the release of Better Nature with a North American tour with announcements coming soon.
