Grammy Award-winning artist Dave Gahan and his musical partner Soulsavers announced that they are releasing a new album, Angels & Ghosts. It will be available worldwide on October 23rd, 2015.
This upcoming release is the Gahan and Soulsavers second collaborative effort. Angels & Ghosts follows the band’s 2012 album, The Light the Dead See, which was critically well received, according to a press release.
So, what can listeners’ expect from the new album?
Well, Angels & Ghosts illustrates the band’s evolution, following their last collaboration. The songs presented in this work incorporate a wide spectrum of influences, including gospel and blues. As such, it is a mix of “meticulously crafted instrumentation,” along with a series of dark and brooding songs, but Angels & Ghosts retains the stark beauty that has become a defining characteristic in Gahan and Soulsavers’ sound, according to a press release.
Take a listen to the moody and cinematic “All of This and Nothing,” which is taken from the upcoming album. It premiered online on Thursday, September 10th, 2015, via a lyric video.
This album came into being in studios around the world. Initially, the writing process involved Gahan and Rich Machin of Soulsavers exchanging ideas and, later, demos across the Atlantic, as Gahan was in lower Manhattan and Machin was in rural England. Then, they gathered additional musicians to record in places such as Los Angeles’ Sunset Sound, and Electric Lady in New York, along with other studios around the world. So, this rather nomadic recording process created an album that has a vibrant live feel, and further proves the “’instant and obvious’ fit that Machin felt writing with Gahan,” according to a press release.
In order to showcase the powerful and live feel of Angels & Ghosts, Gahan and Soulsavers have announced that they are taking it on a mini-tour. In a series of six special shows, which will be held in intimate American and European venues, Angels & Ghosts will be brought to life. The mini-tour begins on October 19th in Los Angeles, and tickets to all of the shows go on sale on September 18th, 2015. A selection of these tour dates will be broadcast and streaming to fans around the world, according to a press release, but the exact details regarding the broadcasts have not been announced at the time of this article’s publication.
