Nashville’s Earl Burrows has announced the release of their debut album, No Love For the Drowning, due out September 18th. The band is the latest project of The Shins’ Mark Watrous and includes his brother, Joel Watrous, and Carson Medders.
Consequence of Sound reported on the upcoming album in July and released its first single, “Our Kind.” Today, mxdwn is premiering the next song off the album, “Go Home Girl.” Listen to the exclusive track below:
The upbeat punk track is, as suspected, telling a girl to go home. The song has the “jagged, jangly 70’s glam-rock” feel that the press release described as the Earl Burrows’ overall feel. The press release also had this to say about the group:
Beyond their familial connection, brothers Joel and Mark Watrous share a mad scientist level knowledge base of music and instrumentation. Mark is one of themost sought after utility men in the business, often asked to join bands for his one-man-band ability to play keys, guitar and a number of other instruments, sometimes all at once. Equally as sought after, Joel is one of the best guitar and amp fixer-builder-customizers in all of Nashville. It’s with that shared musical intelligence and the ability to execute complex instrumentation that Earl Burrows was formed. Mix that with an affinity for pop music, glam rock and Mark’s decade worth of experience playing in some of the greatest indie bands around and you’ve got the unique sound that graces their debut.
The group has two tour stops so far – their record release at The Basement in Nashville on September 11 and at Loufest on September 12. Their album is available for preorder here.
