Legendary heavy metal band Black Sabbath has announced that they will be embarking on their final tour beginning January 20, 2016.
Black Sabbath was formed in Birmingham, England, in 1968. During their nearly five-decade run, the band has released 19 studio albums, six live albums and eight compilation albums. With a career this long and productive, it’s no wonder that Black Sabbath was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006 and has influenced a number of artists, including Nirvana, Judas Priest, Anthrax, the Smashing Pumpkins and Iron Maiden.
Guitarist Tony Iommi was diagnosed with lymphoma in 2012 and has had a hard time performing with the band and resuming his normal life after chemotherapy treatments. In an interview at the beginning of 2015, he stated that he believed it was more than likely the cancer would return. In 2014, Iommi said that the group’s performance at Barclaycard British Summer Time Festival on July 4 of that year could be their very last.
Vocalist and reality TV star Ozzy Osbourne said that the band would be splitting up for good following the next Black Sabbath album and tour, also in 2014. In March 2015 they announced that their final show would take place in November during Ozzfest Japan. However, that plan was announced to be out of the question in April, when they made statement that the planned Black Sabbath show at Ozzfest Japan would just be an Ozzy Osbourne solo performance. Despite the confusion, the band seems to have decided that this tour will be their last as a group, no exceptions. Osbourne and Iommi will be joined on The End tour by Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler. They have announced dates in North America, Australia and New Zealand, with more dates being announced in October.

UPDATE (11/3): More U.S. dates have been added to The End Tour in Oklahoma and Texas. The band will then head to South America and Europe, closing the tour out with two nights in their hometown of Birmingham, UK.
