Apparently Kanye West already has someone backing his bid to run for president in 2020. Yesterday, 24-year-old Baltimore native, Eugene Craig set the wheels in motion by filing paperwork with the Federal Election Commission. Craig officially registered the “Ready For Kanye” political action committee.
After Kanye’s infamous declaration at the VMA’s last Sunday, Eugene Craig, chairman of the Young Minority Republican Fund took action under the terms of what he deems a promising opportunity. While steadily involved in Maryland politics, Craig is no stranger to the political world, having run for office in the past.
During an interview with Rolling Stone, Craig discussed his reasons for supporting Kanye West’s presidential-claim:
“We have a gentlemen in Mr. West who 1) stands for small business and entrepreneurship, has spoke out against corporatism; 2) is a school choicer, and has spoken about the racial disparities in regards to public school systems; and 3) has openly spoken out against the war on drugs and the pipeline that the war on drugs provides to the private prison systems.”
Currently, the “Ready For Kanye” Super PAC makes no plans to raise any money for for Kanye West, but Craig explains, “…it would be nice to have some data mined and voters reached.”
Along with public appearances at the VMA’s, Kanye continues to immerse himself in music, carving-out a fruitful year: headlining festivals and playing special show that revisits his excellent, 808s and Heartbreak at the Hollywood Bowl this September 25.
