Chris Walla Announces New Album Tape Loops For October 2015 Release

Former Death Cab for Cutie guitarist and songwriter, Chris Walla plans to drop his new solo-record, Tape Loops on October 16 via Trans Records.  While Walla has remained elusively-discreet about his reasons for leaving a band he played such an integral part-of, his new record allows access to the instrumental soundscapes of the world inside himself.

Masterfully-helmed as a complete departure from conventional narrative song-structure, Walla works within the confines of analog-based recording.  Meticulously peppering and layering sounds through old-fashioned methodology, an eventual arrival and departure cue melancholic-progressions of nuance.

“I can’t change a closed, physical tape loop with a mouse-click or a keystroke, and that’s precisely the point,” Walla explains.  “Digital recording and editing often feels like working in a spreadsheet…it’s not always a place for dreams.”

Besides his pertinent role as a former-member of Death Cab for Cutie, Walla has recently collaborated with: the Lonely Forest, Rocky Votolato, and the Thermals.  Tape Loops marks Walla’s follow-up to his first solo-outing, 2008’s Field Manual.
