Speedy Ortiz has covered the single “Hanging Around” by The Cardigans. A horror inspired video for another Ortiz single, “Raising The Skate” can be found on YouTube.
Speedy Ortiz will be playing on a boat this Sunday in Boston, MA outside of Boston Harbor as part of the Rock and Blues Concert Cruise series. The single is from their Foil Deer album. The cruise ship will set sail at 1pm EST. Downtown Boys will also be performing alongside Speedy Ortiz for the three hour duration. “Hanging Around ” is a single from The Cardigans’ 1998 release Gran Turismo.
The song is about creating dissonance from a person or as the band has interpreted, the song could also be relevant to the discussion about the film, Invasion of the Body Snatchers. While the film is culturally significant with the twentieth century ideas of modern advancement, the song “Hanging Around” is aesthetically significant for the purpose of sounding like a song lost in time.
