WATCH: FIDLAR Releases New Video For “Leave Me Alone”

FIDLAR has unveiled the official lyric video for their song “Leave Me Alone” on Tumblr, after it premiered on Stereogum, earlier this week.

This new song originates on the band’s forthcoming sophomore release, Too, which is due out on September 4th, 2015, via Mom+Pop Records. And, “Leave Me Alone” follows the band’s previously released singles, “40 Oz. On Repeat,” “West Coast,” and “Drone.”

In an interview with Stereogum, FIDLAR’s frontman Zac Carper explained that “Leave Me Alone” was written about a very important step that occurred on his journey to recovery and sober living, following an addiction to meth, heroin, and crack cocaine that affected, not only his life, but his creativity and the future of the band.

“The song is about my intervention, so it’s a pretty fucked-up tune,” he told Stereogum. “It’s just about telling people to leave you alone … and then, if you tell people that enough, eventually they will leave you alone. Then you’re alone.”

Carper revealed, in the interview with Stereogum, that he has been clean “ for fucking a year now.”

The music that became the 12-song collection, Too, was recorded in Nashville over the course of just two weeks, according to a press release. And, this latest album shows a band that is continuing to hone in on a sonic approach, while branching out into a more introspective style of songwriting. Additionally, Too is the first album where the band has worked with a producer, and they choose Jay Joyce to bring this latest batch of pop-inspired garage and punk rock songs to fruition.

Following appearances at England’s Reading and Leeds Festivals to close out the month of August, FIDLAR will return to the States to participate in Tumblr IRL on September 4th, 2015, in Los Angeles, California.

If you’re not familiar with Tumblr IRL, it is a music and arts series that focuses on exploring the creative mind of musicians, not only on their Tumblr blogs, but In Real Life. As participants in this series, “artists paint the picture behind the creation of their work, focusing on the visuals, their inspirations and the emotions of their music,” according to a press release.

The FIDLAR presentation is a free all ages show, which begins at 7 p.m. The event “will feature visual art by the band’s longtime collaborator Ryan Baxley as well as Zoe Zag, who illustrated the band’s album artwork, and Alice Baxley,” according to a press release. Apart from the artwork and music, there will be on site activities like screen printing, along with watching projected videos, and a very special surprise for the band’s hometown crowd in downtown Los Angeles.
