LISTEN: Telekinesis Release New Song “Sleep In”

Telekinesis’ Michael Benjamin Lerner has released a new single from his upcoming album Ad Infinitum. The single has been shared on NPR’s All Songs Considered podcast that aired this week and the new album is available for purchase on the Merge website and also available for pre-order on iTunes. The album purchase includes three songs that are not in the original tracklisting as parts of the download. Another single “In a Future World” has already been released. The new album is a sequel to the 2013 album Dormarion. Ad Infinitum comes out in September of this year.

The new single is relevant to the occurring theme of the titled track; a man must travel through time to get to his current time after hitting his head. The musician states that while he was working on the new album, he felt as if there were a movie that had no soundtrack to its name, and he created his own soundtrack for the movie as a way to further include his own sounds to the mixture of motion picture and electronic.

The musician was working on his new album in his basement, hence where his idea came from of a man traveling through time to get back to where he was. The album The song almost sounds like David Bowie’s film, where he played an alien that landed on Earth and he was trying to find a way back. Bowie who stared in the film, The Man Who Fell to Earth, would be a visual process of the transitions in sounds and styles of electronic music that musician Telekinesis experimented while working on the new single. The way that the record plays like its a makes you feel like you are traveling alongside the musician as he explores different sounds throughout the entire process. The new single sounds like it’s the singers way of trying to explain his own dream state by trying to latch onto the listener’s own dreams and help the listener travel through this maze of vintage and modern sounds of electronic hits and wonders that have been created over the decades.
