Everyone’s favorite electro-punk anarchists, Mindless Self Indulgence have unveiled their version of Depeche Mode’s classic, “Personal Jesus.” The track will be featured on the band’s forthcoming “Long-Lost” album, Pink, slated for release on September 18th.
Mindless Self Indulgence’s wild-rendition of the renowned hit, “Personal Jesus” is anything but personal by virtue of its loud-&-bombastic tendencies. Marked by textured-synths brazen to the measure, the new version bounces-off every wall in sight. Layered-vocal structures are guided fervently through the room created by drums pounding their own existence.
While not typical to the touch, MSI’s cover of Depeche Mode’s more masterful essence is still a challenging effort deserving multiple listens unto itself. The self-proclaimed: “industrial-jungle-pussy-punk” band drops “Personal Jesus” just in time as a teaser of what’s to come.
Now to be officially unleashed this September, the ever-elusive, Pink will finally see the light of day, courtesy of Metropolis Records. The record serves as “prequel” to what is now the infamous-reputation MSI have cultivated over the years. Pink constitutes never-before-seen-or-heard material from the years: 1990-1997. It’s a personal account of the bands early “mysterious” era in creation.
In relation to the new album, frontman Jimmy Urine said: “Before there was Rebel…before there was Frankenstein Girls…before there was Tight…there was Pink! The MSI prequel to it all.”
Having released 5-studio-albums that have cracked the Top 5 on Billboard’s Dance chart seven-times over the years, the New York City rebels have certainly etched their mark in stone, reveling in a sound that is undefinably all their own.
