Action Bronson is reportedly being sued by Puerto Rican salsa group El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico for allegedly sampling two of their songs, “Falsaria” and “Trampolin” in his songs “Mofongo” and “Tapas” without the group’s permission which are located on their 2011 Blue Chips album. The publishing rights to “Trampolin” are owned by Cartagena Enterprises.
Due to both songs’ presence on music platforms such as Spotify, Google Play, and Apple Music, the band claims that Bronson continues to make profit off of the misused samples. Though the group want Bronson to cease distribution and pay them damages, at the moment it’s unclear how much they’re seeking. The filers of the lawsuit wish to seek damages and the cessation of distribution after Bronson has admitted to sampling the songs, as well as listening to El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico. The rapper has not commented so far on this action being done against him, but there are attempts to reaching out to some of his representatives for a comment on the matter.
The lawsuit cites 2011 Twitter post the New York rapper from Queens made where he admits to using “Falsaria” and a 2014 interview where he says he listens to the Puerto Rican band while cooking. The 31-year-old former chef the recently released his debut album Mr. Wonderful, which follows a series of mixtapes.
