San Francisco’s latest breed of black-metal dwellers, Deafheaven, dropped an exhilarating first-single, “Brought to the Water” from their forthcoming LP, New Bermuda, due out October 2nd.
Taking lessons straight out of the black-metal playbook and seamlessly blending them with the familiar aura of post-rock, the California head-banger’s plow through “Brought to the Water” with a ferocity that shakes the very ground beneath your feet.
While formerly of San Francisco origin, Deafheaven have since moved to Los Angeles, taking-on a darker persona in tonal-quality. “Brought to the Water” is a clear indication of that very persona. Maintaining their ecstatic sense of propulsion, lead-singer, George Clarke chases the clamoring-demeanor evoked with his melancholy-roar and brutish-shrieks.
Discussing the new cut, lead-singer, George Clarke said, “We wanted to share ‘Brought to the Water’ first because it gives a good idea of the overall sonic tone of the record and really evokes feelings that come with uprooting and throwing oneself into the complacent, monotonous routine of adulthood.”
Running no less than a staggering eight-and-a-half-minutes-long, the visceral track punches straight to the core of angst-ridden catharsis coupled by an intricate interplay of melody and dissonance; the record marks a new feat providing a profound-introduction to New Bermuda.
Newly-signed under ANTI-records, New Bermuda is the eagerly-anticipated follow-up to 2013’s stunning, Sunbather. Sunbather is widely-recognized to be the the catalyst that pitched Deafheaven into cross-over territory.
Setting-off a scourging string of tour-dates, Deafheaven seeks to shop their new record among the masses this Fall with fellow-supporting bands, Tribulation and Envy.
