WATCH: The Arcs Release New Video For “Put a Flower in Your Pocket”

The Arcs released a new music video for their song, “Put A Flower in Your Pocket.”

This music video coincides with the premiere of the song, itself. “Put A Flower in Your Pocket” was first given airplay during Zane Lowe’s show on Beats 1, on Thursday August 13, 2015. “Put A Flower in Your Pocket” is taken from The Arcs’ upcoming debut album, Yours, Dreamily, which is out on September 4th, 2015, via Nonesuch Records.

In a press release, the video’s director – and album artwork creator – El Oms said, “My style is a combination of Chicano Art mixed with universal monsters. Or, more specifically, the wolf man. The characters in the video are Rosie, the boxer, and the gangster. Rosie and the boxer are in their 20s and share equal interests in each other—ever since they laid eyes on each other it was love at first sight. However, there is one big obstacle between them: Rosie’s boyfriend the gangster and his gangster lifestyle. After seeing her boyfriend cutting off the hand of the boxer for losing the biggest fight in his career, Rosie shot her boyfriend in retaliation and fled with the boxer. Unknowingly to her, though, the gangster lived and came back to kill the boxer. Rosie, being devastated, took her own life to be with her love in the ghost world … GHOST LOVERS.”

That sounds like an extremely dramatic storyline to lay out in an animated video that comes in at just under four minutes. To see how the director, the band, and the animation experts came together to accomplish the task with clarity, check out the video, below.

So, at this point, you may be wondering who exactly the Arcs are? And, how this new album came to fruition?

The short answer is that the band was started by Black Key’s member Dan Auerbach, as means for him to have another creative outlet. Apart from Auerbach, The Arcs include the talents of Leon Michels, Richard Swift, Homer Steinweiss, and Nick Movshon. And, on their upcoming release, there will be featured appearances by Kenny Vaughan and Mariachi Flor de Toloache.

The thirteen tracks that were written for Yours, Dreamily, were done in a collaborative format, and featured the musicians taking on a wide range of roles from vocals to instrumentation. Additionally, the album was recorded in “roughly two weeks through spontaneous, informal sessions across the country at the Sound Factory in Los Angeles, the Diamond Mine in Queens, Auerbach’s Easy Eye Sound in Nashville, and in a lounge room at Electric Lady in Manhattan,” according to a press release. It was co-produced by Auerbach and Michels, with a final mix put together by Tchad Blake, who worked on the album from his horse farm in Wales.

In advance of Yours, Dreamily, the band released two 7” singles, which are backed with tracks that won’t appear on the official LP release. The first single has the album cut “Stay In My Corner, followed by the non-LP song, “Tomato Can.” While, the second single pairs the album track, “Outta My Mind” with an unreleased song called, “My Mind.” These promotional singles are available via Nonesuch Records, The Arcs official website, or other independent retail outlets.
