Determined to make it on her own terms, rap-artist, Kitty (formerly Kitty Pryde) launches Kickstarter campaign in order to crowd-fund her first full-length LP. Kitty’s goal is to reach $25K within a month’s time from the help of her ever-supportive fan-base.
Ditching the traditional business-model and mindsets of yesteryear, Daytona Beach native, Kitty seeks to finance her very first record on her own…with a little help from her fans that is. Now, according to the official Kickstarter page, Kitty has already surpassed her goal of $25K with a current-staggering $26, 869 in under 48-hours. Not too shabby for the “do-it-yourself” dynamo.
Kitty, whose given birth-name is Kathryn-Leigh Beckwith is no stranger to accomplishing signature-goals on her own. When her first video, “Okay Cupid” went viral in 2012, she was just another store-clerk at Claire’s Accessories trying to make ends-meet to put herself through college. Thanks to the overnight-success of: “Okay Cupid,” and a stack of other songs, including: “Second Life” and “Miss U,” which she merely recorded at home in her closet, Kitty was able to leave Florida in the dust and set her sights on a music-career in New York City.
The self-attained rapper/producer/entrepreneur has already made quite a dent in the world of music since her viral debut. While serving as an active-member of the comedy hip-hop crew, Jokers in Trousers, Kitty’s scaling abilities caught the eye of rapper and confidant, Riff Raff. The two later collaborated as a duo on the single, “Orion’s Belt.” Such attention to backdoor networking-techniques and vivacious use of the internet as a tool to promote one’s own art, Kitty has been able to release four solo-EP’s, countless music-video’s, and collaborate with heavy-hitters: Sufjan Stevens, Danny Brown, and Ryan Hemsworth all without the backing of a label or artist management system.
Now at the tender age of just 22, this fledgling young tour-de-force needs your support more than ever to fulfill her lifelong dream of releasing a full-length solo album.
