WATCH: Killer Mike, Kendrick Lamar And Glasses Malone Release New Lyric Video For “Thuggin’”

Artists Kendrick Lamar and Glasses Malone had Killer Mike join with a guest verse on the new track “Thuggin'”. The track, released earlier this year, now has a lyric video to accompany the hip hop rap song.

The combination of three iconic artists has audiences everywhere so psyched about the track, as the collaboration between rappers really produced an interesting song. “Thuggin'”, being a really killer rap track, also had a huge political connotation about it regarding the word thug. It was interesting how this song highlighted how the word ‘thug’ can be applied to an entire race as a term of stereotyping, and that’s exactly what the artists are doing here. They’re taking news headlines that scroll through news networks or social media and is calling society out on them.

The song seems to catch some people on edge if they miss the irony of the song. Instead of glorifying thug culture it’s highlighting how mainstream media so casually throws around that word in so many headlines, as Pitchfork points out. You can see the political spunk in the lyrics: “Fun, brother versus brother / No hesitation when you face the same color”. It definitely showcases some issues that we’ve seen in our current events and mainstream media today and takes a very heavy stance on it.

Glasses Malone created the collaboration of a lifetime introducing Kendrick Lamar and Killer Mike for guest verses on this track. The work between the artists really showed, especially in such a topic heavy track. Despite the irony of some of the lyrics, it approaches some real issues with the message of the song and allows music to be a platform in which to voice opinions.
