Silversun Pickups have released a music video for their track “Nightlight,” which will be on their forthcoming album Better Nature, out September 25.

“Nightlight” is an almost eight-minute long short film set to music, and it’s directed by Mark Pellington, who has previously directed The Mothman Prophecies and worked with artists such as Pearl Jam, Public Enemy and Bruce Springsteen. The music video begins with quick flashes of different scenes, as a character narrates over soft music. The narration leads into the song almost two minutes into the visual, with steady drums and guitar picking up. It’s a dynamic track with strong vocals and a mid-tempo beat. The video itself tells a thrilling story that matches up with the energy of the tune perfectly. The narration cuts in again about four and a half minutes in, followed by a guitar solo. The final minute of the video is the song’s closing with narration and visuals to complete the story. You can experience “Nightlight” for yourself below.

The Los Angeles alternative rock band formed in 2002 and released their first full-length album, Carnavas, in 2006. They were nominated for a Best New Artist Grammy award in 2009 but they didn’t end up winning the category.

Better Nature will be the band’s follow-up to 2012’s Neck of the Woods, and it will be their fourth full-length album. Following the release of Neck of the Woods, Silversun Pickups played at Musicfest NW in Portland, Oregon, so they will hopefully be touring and performing at festivals following their forthcoming release as well. Though they haven’t released much new material since 2012, they did release compilation record The Singles Collection in 2014, including new track called “Cannibal.” Better Nature is currently available for pre-order via all major digital outlets, including iTunes, Amazon and Google Play.
