Meg Myers appears to be shedding her introspective, singer-songwriter sensibilities for an edgier alternative-rock persona in her new single, “Lemon Eyes.” Taken from her forthcoming new record, Sorry, due out September 18, the new cut is sure to turn heads.
Upon first listen, Meg Myers’ new song, “Lemon Eyes” screams the glory days of 90’s alt-rock’s queen-bee’s: Alanis Morissette and Fiona Apple. The heavy-laden angst delivered with feminine-snear floats like the voice-of-reason to it’s abrupt-landing, grunge-worthy riffs and crushing drumbeats. The verse-dynamics play seemingly-innocent amongst the tender issue of angular-guitar licks soon yielding to the dark-horse of a brazen-chorus soon to shift gears and run wild. While still playing to the catchy pop veneer that surrounds Myers’ previous cuts, “Desire” and “Sorry,” “Lemon Eyes” drives home to reveal the true nature of the beast within.
Although she was born in Nashville, young-songstress, Meg Myers spent the first part of her youth in the Smokey Mountains of Tennessee, and later, Florida under the guidance of her step-father and Jehovah’s Witness mother. Working for a cleaning business, Myers’ parents slept through their days only to burn the midnight-oil by night in order to provide for their family.
Bouncing from town-to-town, laying-no-roots for stability, proved to be a trying time for an impressionable, young-girl. Myers found her means of escape through writing songs on her keyboard and self-taught guitar lessons. Once she hit age 20, Myers sought a career in music and headed out West to Los Angeles. After following the usual course of your “garden-variety” struggling-musician, Myers met Doctor Rosen Rosen, who took her under his wing and signed her to his production company. The two instantly began writing songs together. Rosen was able to flesh-out Myers’ more pop-sensibilities in the studio to create what will be her debut via Atlantic Records, Sorry.
Acting as a sheer support for her forthcoming record, Sorry, Myers launched tour this Spring that will continue through July and run on through this Fall.
