Huntress, the American heavy metal band formed in the underground of Highland Park, California, released a new song off their third studio album, Static. According to Blabbermouth.com, Huntress’s lead singer, Jill Janus said “‘Flesh’ is catchy and hard rock, it’s lusty and bloody, a blackened-party metal make out song.”
The group presented the song in form of a well illustrated lyric video, courtesy of Vance Kelly, who brings the lyrics and story created by Janus to life. The video and song start off simple, with the song providing ample buildup before the lyrics come in, while the video sets up the setting of the story as a mountainous, forested area. The band name and song title are introduced, then Janus enters with “Nightmares don’t trouble me, I wear them on my sleeve”. Next to the lyrics our main character is pictured, staring off into the night. After a few lines, Janus growls a “HEY!, I’m not the same” as the woman pictured bares her teeth. Our protagonist continues to stalk her prey until around two and a half minutes in, when she captures her prey and begins to devour her. The song calms down for only a couple seconds as Janus asks herself “What makes me want you bad?” before picking up again almost immediately after. “Flesh” is a gruesomely enjoyable song with a story and video to match.
Static will be released the 25th of September, and is Huntress’s third studio release. Static follows the band’s 2013 release, Starbound Beast, which peaked at 12 on the U.S. Heatseekers chart. A single from Starbound Beast, “Zenith” was nominated for Revolver Golden Gods Awards Best Film & Video award in 2014
