New Jersey punk band The Gaslight Anthem announced that they are taking an indefinite hiatus, which will start after they finish their current European tour.
In a message on their official Facebook page, the band wrote, “We’re all going to do other projects and stay active in some way or another, both in and out of music, but we’d like to step away from the band until we decide what we’d like to do next.”
Since The Gaslight Anthem emerged on the scene in 2007 with Sink Or Swim, and broke through that next year with The ’59 Sound, an LP, the band has kept up a cycle of near-constant recording and touring behind new material. The last Gaslight Anthem album was Get Hurt, which was released in 2014, according to PasteMagazine.com.
“We’d like to recharge and take a step back until we have something we feel excited about rather than going right back to making a record just for the sake of making the next record,” the band members said in the statement that they posted on Facebook. “We all feel this is the best decision we can make and it feels like the right one for us.”
The band gave a special thank you shout-out to “everyone who came out and supported our band for the last eight years.” And they concluded their message by writing, “we’ll see you down the road!”
Although The Gaslight Anthem is going to be taking some well-deserved time out to recharge their batteries, the band’s vocalist – songwriter Brian Fallon – is pursuing several side projects. Rolling Stone reports that he is involved in The Horrible Crowes, which finds Fallon working with former Gaslight Anthem guitarist Ian Perkins. Additionally, Fallon is with Molly and The Zombies, a folk band. And, lastly, Rolling Stone reports that fans of Gaslight Anthem guitarist Alex Rosamilia will want to take a look at his latest album, No Foxhole Prayers, which he recorded with his metal side project Servitude.
The Gaslight Anthem has played to large numbers of people at home and abroad, having made stops at well-known festivals like the Bravalla Festival in Sweden in June 2015, and most recently at Canada’s WayHome Music and Arts Festival in Ontario, which ran from the 24-26th of July. But, before stepping away to recharge, the band will play a show in Connecticut on August 1st, 2015, before they head to Europe to give concerts in Hungary, two cities in Germany, Sweden, Belgium, France, the Netherlands, and three shows – including two festival appearances – in the United Kingdom.
