WATCH: Major Lazer Releases New Video For “Powerful”

Major Lazer, the international electronic superstars have released a the video for “Powerful” featuring Tarrus Riley and Ellie Goulding. “Powerful” is from the groups critically acclaimed album, Peace is the mission, which was released June 1st, 2015.

The video opens rather simply, a standard diner scene, nothing particularly out of the ordinary. After a few seconds the camera pans over to Ellie Goulding, who begins to telekinetically mess with her coffee and utensils. This continues for a bit before cutting to Tarrus Riley, who is doing pretty much the same thing, except he’s flipping coins and making his grapefruit halves float into the air. The pair continue to grow in power, causing spikes in electricity around them, flipping on lights that were previously dim, causing them to flicker, and messing with the television’s signal.

At this point Goulding and Riley stand, walking toward the back of the diner while disrupting everything near them, sliding coffee cups out of position and causing entire tables full of condiments to float away. The pair meet in the back of the room, combining their power before unleashing it on the rest of the diner, sending chairs flying and causing one of the other patron’s hair to stand on end. To top it all off, they lift the waitress into the air, something that she obviously wasn’t enjoying. The video ends with Goulding and Riley walking to their car, which they open and start with their power.

Overall the video is a great fit for “Powerful”. Both Ellie Goulding and Tarrus Riley get a chance to demonstrate their powers before coming together and becoming even more powerful, which is in line with the lyrics “There’s an energy, When you hold me, When you touch me, It’s so powerful”. While it’s not clear what exactly Goulding and Riley have against this particular diner or it’s occupants, it is enjoyable to watch them wreck the place telekinetically.

Major Lazer is comprised of Diplo, Jillionaire, and Walshy Fire. They recently teamed up with Danish recording artist MO to cover Frank Ocean’s “Lost”. Major Lazer has released three studio albums and has fourth planned. The group has collaborated with many big names including Ellie Goulding, Andy Samberg, and even 2 Chainz .
