What began as a bedroom recording project of lead singer and songwriter Dee Dee Penny, American rock band Dum Dum Girls can add another successful accomplishment to their list: a single featured on Netflix’s critically-acclaimed show Orange Is The New Black. The track, “Coming Down,” was played during the show’s third season.
Although the track is from the band’s 2011 sophomore album, Only In Dreams, and already video, the band has unveiled an alternate video. Apparently this one was made first, but was shelved in a last minute decision, Stereogum reports.
Shot in black-and-white, the alternate video displays frontwoman Penny mindlessly traversing through New York City’s bustling streets. The original video is strikingly similar, however, during Penny’s walk through the city multiple strangers come up to her and cut off parts of her clothing.
Penny said of the filming process:
I couldn’t handle starring in such a straight forward, HD role — it was just too much me. I felt exposed and that made me uncomfortable.
During the Dum Dum Girls’ hiatus, Penny recorded a track titled “Is There Any Other One?” under the moniker HUNI. Just last year, the Dum Dum Girls released brand new, nontraditional Christmas single, “On Christmas.”
